Hall of Fame 2008
Below find the list of people who are going
to be inducted into the Cardinal Hall of Fame at
the Red and
Black Dinner Auction here.
TEAMS:
1980 Womens State
Basketball Champions.
The first womens state title team from Corbett surprised
many by bringing home the title while starting a
very young team. Coach Tom Anderson will represent
the team at the induction ceremony.
1962 Mens State
Track Champions
Coached by Buck
Monroe. After placing 2nd in 61 the cardinals won
their first of two back to back state track championships
and continued a long run of district titles.
COACHES:
Deb Swoboda
set a standard at Corbett and around the state that
few will ever duplicate. Five state championships
in volleyball in the 80's plus district titles most
every year she coached. She was also an outstanding
softball coach that took many teams deep into the
state playoffs.
Buck Monroe
arrived at Corbett and had instant success as the
head coach in Football, Basketball, and Track. The
banners in the gym attest to his outstanding coaching
in all three sports. His teams were always well
coached and prepared to give an outstanding effort.
PLAYERS:
Tricia (Becker)
Couture made a huge impact on Women's
sports at Corbett. She helped set a standard of
excellence for every young women to attempt to attain.
Winning 11 varsity letters and playing a huge part
in 3 state championship teams.
Robin Hager
was a three sport athlete who was elected to play
in the the East/West Shrine football game, was 2nd
team all state in basketball and high point man
on the 1963 state track championship team.
Ted Hiemstra
lettered in Football, Basketball, Baseball, and
Track at Corbett. Ted still holds the single game
rebound record at the state basketball tournament
with 21 in a single game and led all divisions his
senior year in scoring averaging 28 points per game.
COMMUNITY MEMBER:
Claudia Becker a
1963 Corbett Grad and pretty good player in her
day. Claudia has a heart for the kids of Corbett
and for many years she has done everything from
organization of teams, to getting fields game ready
to coaching. She is a great example to all of us
and is the number one Cardinal Fan.
